My question was addressed in September of this year. It seems I wasn’t the only one wondering what happened to those high-tech, early-warning sea-floor sensors developed by the US National Science Foundation and given to the Indonesian government, after the cataclysmic earthquake and subsequent tsunami of 2004.
Tsunami can travel at up to 500 mph. This tsunami was not caused by large earthquake, but by volcano cone failure during low level seismic activity. The short distance would have given only a minute or two warning and would have required buoys, not floor monitors. Full story at occasionally correct BBC. We live on a planet that is profoundly indifferent to human existence, hence we need civilization to thrive.
