“The Timing Was Unfortunate”

Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducted the largest workplace operation in more than a decade across seven food processing plants in Mississippi, that resulted in the detainment of 680 workers. That same day, agency officials said they released about 300 back into the U.S. on “humanitarian grounds.” More than 200 had prior criminal records.

During an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, Acting DHS Secretary McAleenan said given the agency operations were carried out four days after the incident in El Paso, the “timing was unfortunate.”
