House Freedom Caucus co-founder Jim Jordan formally announced his campaign for speaker of the House Thursday. Jordan has received an onslaught of support from conservative groups and his colleagues in the House Freedom Caucus to run for speaker.
“Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives,” Jordan said in a statement Thursday. “President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people. Eli Stickley, the 21 year old nephew of Congressman Jim Jordan, was pronounced dead after being transported to Illini Hospital in Silvis, Illinois. Stickley was driving a 2004 black Nissan Frontier that left the roadway on westbound Interstate 74 in Henry County at 8:19 p.m. Thursday, according to the Illinois State Police.
After the vehicle went into the right-hand ditch, it over-corrected and rolled across westbound lanes of traffic, the state police said, ending up on the passenger side in the passing lane. Stickley and a passenger were transported to Illini Hospital in Silvis, Illinois. No update was available on the passenger, who has not been identified by police. Stickley, a member of The University of Wisconsin wrestling team, was about to enter his redshirt junior season with the Badgers.
Congressman Jordan has established himself as a thorn in the side of the DC swamp.
